Phlegmians are a large slug-like sentient species. They are members of the Galactic Alliance and even have a representative in the Galactic Senate, Senator Phlegmex.
Biology and appearance[]
Phlegmians are typically green, and have multiple large vesicles over their bodies that constantly secrete slime. The tops of their heads end in a much larger tube-shaped vesicle that also secretes slime. When inhaling deeply, the slime trails partially retract back into their vesicles, but re-emerge and start to flow again upon exhaling. Some, like Senator Phlegmex, are shown to regulate the amount of slime they secrete by interrupting their speech with frequent deep inhalations.[1] Unfortunately, Phlegmians are still considered repellent by other species due to the sheer amount of slime they leave in their wake.[2][3] When they don't regulate their slime secretions, it can pool around their mouths, the bottom half of their clothing, and even beneath their bodies.[1][3]
They are a unipedal species, possessing two arms but no legs. Their lower arms have slight folds to them, and they possess only two fingers: one large finger, and one smaller finger that acts like an opposable thumb.[1][2][3]
Very little is known about their diet, although they are known to eat insects.[citation needed]
History[]
Phlegmians are members of the Galactic Alliance, and even have a representative in the Galactic Senate, Senator Phlegmex.
When Zurg used his Planet Destroyer to "destroy" Tangea, the Phlegmians wanted the Galactic Alliance president to negotiate their surrender with Zurg to prevent the potential destruction of their homeworld too.[2]
Society and culture[]
Senator Phlegmex was initially reluctant to sign Senator Aarrfvox's animal rights bill, apparently referring to them as "dumb animals," though whether this is indicative of a belief Phlegmians have on a whole or simply part of Phlegmex's own beliefs is unclear.[1]
Notable Phlegmians[]
- Senator Phlegmex
- Phlegmian defendant
Trivia[]
- Phlegmian is a play on phlegm, a type of mucus secreted by the cells in the lower airways of the respiratory tract.
