Below follows a list of home video releases for Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.

VHS releases[]

The Adventure Begins[]

The direct-to-film version of The Adventure Begins, with Tim Allen as the voice of Buzz Lightyear instead of Patrick Warburton, was released on August 8, 2000 concurrently with the DVD version.

The opening of the VHS featured trailers to various upcoming Disney and Pixar films, and the closing featured the end title song "To Infinity and Beyond" performed by William Shatner and the Star Command Chorus. The closing also featured a sneak peek of the upcoming Buzz Lightyear of Star Command TV series, as well as a trailer for the upcoming Buzz Lightyear of Star Command video game.

Planet of the Lost[]

The episode "Planet of the Lost" was also released on VHS, though it was not for resale. According to some online sources, this was due to the fact that it came packaged with a toy.[source?] Its front and side covers label it as an "episode sampler" and "bonus video," though whether this means it was a promotional VHS or not is unclear.

The Series: The Inside Story[]

In the UK, the Disney Channel collaborated with The Sun, a tabloid newspaper, and created a promotional VHS that was not for resale. It features an approximately 4-minute-long making of of the series, as well as 20 minutes of "animated action" featuring highs and lows, monsters, machinery and aliens from the series. It is unclear whether the 20 minutes are an entire episode or merely clips.

The direct-to-film version of The Adventure Begins, with Tim Allen as the voice of Buzz Lightyear instead of Patrick Warburton, was released on August 8, 2000 concurrently with the VHS version.

Like the VHS version, it featured trailers to various upcoming Disney and Pixar films, as well as trailers for the upcoming TV series and video game of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. The end titles also featured the song "To Infinity and Beyond." However, the DVD release also featured some bonus features, including a digital comic book, a trivia game, and a who's who game, in further detail below.

"The Emperor's New Throne" digital comic book.

The digital comic book featured is "The Emperor's New Throne," which was released in the August 2000 issue of the Disney Adventures magazine. It features a narrator reading the comic, as well as an option to read it yourself. The narrated version is approximately 7 minutes long.

Star Command Trivia Game[]

The trivia game features a number of questions pertaining to plot points of The Adventure Begins, testing viewers' memory skills. There are 16 questions in total to answer, and depending on how many you get right, you get a score out of 16.

Star Command alert! The 10 most wanted criminals in the Galactic Alliance are at large. Can you identify them? Click on the villain described to activate their criminal infolink.

Essentially a "who's who" game, in which you must match the clues to the correct villain. After a correct match, the villain's profile unlocks. After going through all the profiles, there is another set of clues you must match to the correct villain. After a correct match, short clips of the villain with informative voice overs unlock.

First round of clues:

  • Favorite thing to say is "Prepare to die, Buzz Lightyear!"
    • Evil Emperor Zurg — Self-proclaimed "ruler of the universe and master of the galaxy." He is the archenemy of Buzz Lightyear.
  • Known as the Mistress of Mass, she has a big crush on Buzz.
    • Gravitina — Has everything she's ever wanted except one thing... Buzz Lightyear.
  • XR's big, bad brother, gives the "X" family a bad name.
    • XL — Originally a failed experiment by the Little Green Men, he's the prototype of what became XR.
  • These deadly assassins average only six inches in size.
    • Gargantians — What these tiny terrorists lack in size, they make up for in numbers.
  • The galaxy's deadliest hit man is covered from head to toe in body armor.
    • Shiv Katall — Is known as the galaxy's meanest, toughest bounty hunter.
  • Before turning evil, used to be Buzz Lightyear's best friend and partner in Star Command.
    • Warp Darkmatter — One of Star Command's most dangerous enemies because he's a good guy gone bad.
  • Created in Zurg's evil lab and named after the first movie vampire.
    • NOS-4-A2 — Zurg created this robotic space vampire and named him after Nosferatu, the original silent movie vampire.
  • In an alternate universe, he is even more evil than Zurg.
    • Evil Buzz — Is the number one bad guy in a bizarre alternate universe where Zurg has defeated Star Command and the forces of good.
  • Ability to clone himself makes him a one-man army.
    • Torque — Zurg gave Torque "clone on demand" powers which allow him to self-replicate at will.
  • The only human ever bitten by NOS-4-A2, now he's a cyber mechanical menace.
    • Wirewolf — The metallic bite from vampire robot NOS-4-A2 turned former Space Ranger Ty Parsec into the vicious villain Wirewolf.

Second round of clues:

  • Weapon of choice is always handy; it's only an arm's length away.
    • Warp Darkmatter, Zurg's favorite henchman. His weapon of choice is the outlawed plasma cannon.
  • Eyes are red, teeth are yellow, always screams, never mellow.
    • Evil Emperor Zurg, ruler of the Planet Z. His first name is evil, and so is he. Has endless technological resources and nasty ideas how to use them.
  • Known as the "energy vampire."
    • NOS-4-A2. With one bite from his cyber fangs, all things mechanical fall under his evil spell.
  • Has a head so large, it has its own gravitational field.
    • Gravitina. Hot-blooded evil dictator. Can reorient gravity with her gravatomic abilities.
  • Has strong forearms on his four strong arms.
    • Torque. This rowdy space biker is multi-armed and dangerous.
  • This self-made villain is always on the lookout for new parts.
    • XL. By stealing state-of-the-art robot parts, XL is rebuilding himself piece by piece, until he's a real monster-piece.
  • His identity and secret assignments from Zurg are shrouded in mystery.
    • Shiv Katall is the secret identity used by several mystery men. Is it a force of evil, or good?
  • He's the dark reflection of Buzz Lightyear; in battle, they anticipate each other's every move.
    • Evil Buzz looks just like Buzz Lightyear — if Buzz had a twisted heart of evil... and a beard.
  • A radioactive moon turns him into a robotic monster.
    • Wirewolf. Strange radiations from the green moon of Canis Lunis transformed him into a raging beast.
  • Handy at disguise, you'll never know where they'll pop up.
    • Rebel Gargantians inhabit robotic duplicates of other beings to dupe their enemies.
